Are blessings always an upgrade?

One recorded blessing is a straight gain. Another halves a resource. They are not one category.

Quick answer

No. Blessings behave as permanent modifiers, and at least one recorded blessing carries a penalty rather than a bonus. A Gaming Plus TV systems video reports that Stone's blessing reduces magicka regeneration by 50%, which it frames as manageable on a physical build and crippling on a spellcaster. A separate Wizard Worm quest recording shows a blessing given as a quest reward, Remembrance of past, which increases pickpocketing by 50% during the day with no downside shown. The two recordings agree on the shape of the system — blessings are lasting build changes with named effects — and disagree on nothing, because they are describing two different blessings. Read the effect text before accepting one.

Early Access note: this page is verified for Early Access Update 7; mechanics, locations and commands may change in later updates.

Steps

  1. Read the blessing's effect text in full before accepting it. That text is the only place either recording gets its numbers from.
  2. Check the effect against the resource your build actually depends on. The recorded penalty is to magicka regeneration, which matters enormously to a spellcaster and much less to a physical build.
  3. Expect quest rewards to be blessings too. The Wizard Worm recording receives Remembrance of past at the end of a quest, alongside the line that the giver has no need of it.
  4. Look for conditions inside the effect. The recorded quest blessing applies its bonus during the day, so its value depends on when you play.
  5. Treat a blessing as a lasting decision rather than a pickup. Neither recording shows a way to remove one, though neither shows that removal is impossible either.

Requirements / limits

  • Two blessings are recorded anywhere in the sources cited here. That is enough to establish that blessings can help and can hurt; it is nowhere near a list.
  • Each specific figure has a single source. The 50% magicka regeneration reduction appears only in the Gaming Plus TV video, and the 50% daytime pickpocketing bonus only in the Wizard Worm recording.
  • No cited source states whether blessings can be removed, replaced or stacked.
  • NerveLabs has published nothing about blessings in any changelog or store text cited here. Everything on this page is recorded play from 18–19 August 2026.
  • Both recordings predate Update 7 on 21 August 2026. Its notes never use the word blessing, but two lines touch shrines — Adon shrine worship was fixed, and Magdal’s Shrine no longer gets rushed by angry skeletons. Neither says anything about what a blessing does or how long it lasts, and no post-update recording has been read here.

Common mistakes

  • Grabbing a blessing because the word implies a gift. One of the two anybody recorded takes something away.
  • Assuming a penalty is a bug. The recording presents the magicka reduction as the blessing's stated effect, and as a deliberate build trade-off.
  • Generalising from the quest reward. A blessing handed over at the end of a quest was purely positive; that says nothing about the next one.
  • Ignoring the timing clause. A bonus that applies during the day is worth nothing on a night route.
  • Quoting either percentage as confirmed. Each rests on one recording, which is why both sit in the open questions below.

Still unverified

  • Can a blessing be removed once taken? Not verifiedNeither recording attempts removal, and no NerveLabs source cited here mentions blessings at all.
  • Does Stone's blessing reduce magicka regeneration by exactly 50%?Single unconfirmed reportStated once, in the Gaming Plus TV video. No second recording and no developer text confirms the figure.
  • How many blessings exist, and where do they come from? Not verifiedTwo are recorded in the sources cited here, one taken directly and one given as a quest reward. No source publishes a list.
