Who gives the Old Gods quest, and where are the three shrines?
Two unrelated sessions record the same recruitment speech word for word, so the quest text is solid. The three shrine locations come from one conversation on one channel, and are published as such.
Quick answer
A priest you meet on the road gives it. He tells you the worship of many is preferable to the worship of one, asks you not to renounce your god but to join him in worshipping them all, and when you agree he sends you to “visit the shrines of the three primes, created by their devout in times long past” and to establish a pact with them. One player reads the quest name off his own screen as the objective appears: the Old Gods quest. Two independent recordings carry the speech in the same words. The three locations come from a single conversation in a third recording, and are given as directions rather than markers: the queen’s shrine to the south by the crystalline spires, the hungering one’s to the far north on the shore, and the third on a beach on the far west of the island. Two of the three have been reached on camera. Nobody in the source pool finishes the quest.
Early Access note: this page is verified for Early Access Update 7; mechanics, locations and commands may change in later updates.
Steps
- Talk to the priest when you meet him. He opens with a line about Adon and his chains binding for our own protection, and does not need to be sought out — both recorded players run into him.
- Hear him out and accept. The quest only starts after you tell him you want to worship the gods with him; he answers “yes, you are ready” and adds the objective.
- Ask him about the gods before you leave. That is the conversation branch that produces the three locations, and only one recorded player takes it.
- Head for whichever shrine is nearest. They are on opposite ends of the island and no order is given.
- Crouch at the shrine to pray. Sheathing your weapon does not work, whatever the shrine’s own text says — the separate page on that trap has the detail.
- Expect to pay health for each prayer, and expect no confirmation that the quest is advancing. No source records a completion.
What the priest says
This is the passage two unrelated channels transcribe the same way, days apart: “The left hand path leads to the infinite transference. The right hand path to the calamitous end. Yet all paths must be walked for us to come to true understanding.”
Then the pitch: “Hear me now, traveler … the worship of many is preferable to the worship of one. Do not renounce your god, but join me in the worship of them all.” Accept, and he answers: “Yes, you are ready. Surprised? You were born for this, as we all are. The gods deserve our praise. Visit the shrines of the three primes, created by their devout in times long past. Establish a pact with them as I have taught you.” He signs off with “rejoice in the world”.
One of the two recordings also catches him warning about the queen — “forsake her at your own peril” — and both catch the line about Adon and his chains. Adon, according to the game’s own lore compendium, is the local god of this island, who protects it from the frogmen so long as it stays cut off from the world. The priest is asking you to add gods, not to swap them, and the quest text is consistent about that.
Where the three shrines are
One player asks the priest about the gods and gets directions. The captions are rough, but the geography is legible: the baleful queen’s shrine lies south, by the top crystalline spires; the hungering one’s lies to the far north, on the shore; and the third — the blood god’s, whose name the captions render half a dozen ways — lies on a beach on the far west of the island.
Two of those have been reached on camera by a different player, on a different channel, which is the closest thing to corroboration this page has. He finds the blood god’s shrine and prays there, and later reaches the queen’s. Neither visit is described in a way that lets a reader navigate to it, so the directions above stay directions.
The same conversation also gives short descriptions of three gods — the chained one, the binder of souls and protector of his people; a god who lies above his people and pushes them to the victors; and a pragmatic one whose mind spins at the machinations of his holy thoughts. The epithets in the descriptions and the epithets in the directions do not line up cleanly, and this page does not force them to. Which shrine belongs to which god is not established.
What the game says the three primes are
The lore compendium in the game is read aloud in two separate recordings, and the two transcriptions match closely enough to quote. It describes a blood god worshipped by clans of wanderers locked in eternal combat, who “is a red moon that transits the sky each day, crossing our plane at the sight of his sacred fortress temple at precisely midnight” — and adds that it is unclear whether the moon is his true form or whether he is something else entirely.
It describes a queen worshipped across a constellation of cities, who “is not seen, only heard through whispers and visions and hand selected messengers”, and is said to live in a baleful fortress deep in the mountain woodlands. And it describes a hive city of high ziggurats whose god sits above it all, overseeing the mines and plantations that feed its growth.
The same passage mentions gods being “slain by zealots of the three”, which is the only place a reader will find the phrase behind “the three primes” spelled out. It is lore rather than mechanics, but it is the game’s own writing, transcribed twice, and it explains what the priest is talking about better than any guide could paraphrase it.
Requirements / limits
- Nobody in the source pool finishes this quest. What happens when all three pacts are established is unknown.
- The three locations come from one conversation on one channel. They are compass directions and landmarks, not coordinates, and no recording follows them from the priest to a shrine.
- No god’s name is printed here. Machine captions render the blood god six different ways and the queen four, and the site does not guess at spellings.
- Which of the described gods owns which shrine is not established, and the epithets in the two halves of that conversation do not match.
- The priest’s dialogue is transcribed twice, but nothing about the quest’s rewards, stages or failure states has any source at all.
- Every recording here predates Update 7 on 21 August 2026. That update says quests now mark areas on the map in a TES3-style way and that directions to many quests were improved, so a current build may narrow these three locations further. It also lists two shrine fixes — Adon shrine worship, and Magdal’s Shrine being rushed by angry skeletons — neither of which is named as one of the three primes.
Common mistakes
- Renouncing your existing god to take the quest. The priest explicitly says not to — the quest is additive.
- Walking away before asking about the gods. That branch is where the three locations come from, and one recorded player skips it entirely.
- Sheathing your weapon at a shrine because the shrine tells you to. Crouch instead; the separate page on that instruction covers it.
- Expecting the directions to be markers. Everything the priest gives is prose — south by the spires, far north on the shore, a beach on the far west. Update 7 has since added TES3-style area marking for quests, which shades a region rather than pointing at a shrine, and no recording here shows it applied to this one.
- Reading the lore compendium as a shrine list. It describes the gods and their realms, not where their shrines are on this island.
Still unverified
- What happens when all three pacts are made? Not verifiedNo recording gets past two shrines, and neither visit is confirmed as completing anything.
- Which god owns which shrine? Not verifiedThe epithets in the directions and the epithets in the god descriptions do not correspond, and the captions are too rough to reconcile them.
- Is the priest a fixed encounter or a wandering one?Not verifiedTwo players meet him; neither says where, and their sessions are hours apart in different areas.
- Does the quest have journal stages? Not verifiedOne player reads the quest name off the screen as it appears. Nobody opens the log afterwards.
- Is one of the three primes’ shrines the Adon shrine Update 7 repaired? Not verifiedUpdate 7 lists Adon shrine worship as fixed. Adon is named in this quest’s dialogue as the island’s own god, but nothing connects him to the three primes, and the changelog does not say where that shrine is.
