Where do I find peaches for the tavern quest?

The first paid work in the game is a fetch quest whose fetch target one player could not pick up for three hours. He completed it by buying the difference from the merchant.

Quick answer

Buy them. The tavern keeper in Magdal’s Rest offers paid work gathering a dozen peaches, and the objective that appears on screen is exactly “Gather a dozen peaches.” The one recorded player who finishes it never picks a single peach off the ground — he says on camera that he cannot, twice, two and three quarter hours apart — and instead reaches seven from containers and buys the remaining five from the town-square merchant, who stocks them. He is not the only seller: the baker a few paces away stocks a peach as well, recorded on two other channels, one of which buys one. Turn-in is back at the tavern; the keeper pays coin and hands you a bottle of the peach spirit he brews from them. Two things to know before you go looking: the peaches you can take are the ones indoors, in bowls and on tables, and one of the children in the woods will send you down a canyon to a well on purpose, then admit he made it up.

Early Access note: this page is verified for Early Access Update 7; mechanics, locations and commands may change in later updates.

Steps

  1. Go to the tavern in Magdal’s Rest and talk to the keeper. He introduces himself unprompted; the work is behind asking him about the drinks, not behind asking for a job.
  2. Ask what he serves. He describes watered-down ale, then a stronger spirit he brews from peaches, then explains that the town’s children gather them for him. The offer to join them comes at the end of that answer.
  3. Accept. The on-screen objective reads “Gather a dozen peaches.”
  4. Take the peaches you find indoors — in bowls, on tables, in houses. One recording shows a player taking those freely.
  5. Do not count on picking them up outdoors. The one player who tried says he could not pick up a single one, and repeats it hours later as an ongoing problem.
  6. Buy the shortfall. Two vendors in town are on record stocking peaches — the merchant in the town square and the baker — and between them three separate recordings see a peach on the shelf.
  7. Return to the tavern with twelve. The keeper takes them, pays you, and gives you a bottle of what he makes from them.

The peaches you cannot pick up

One player spends the middle of his session standing over peaches he can see and cannot take. At forty minutes: “They still won’t let me pick them up. Am I tripping?” At three hours thirteen: “the peaches are bugged, too, because I haven’t been able to pick up a single peach. And that very much looks like it should be picked up.”

That is one player on one build, which is why this page grades it as a single report rather than a confirmed bug. It is worth the space anyway, because it is the difference between a quest that looks broken and a quest you can finish in ten minutes.

A second recording complicates it usefully. A different player, in a house, says “I can take the peaches for free” and does. So the two accounts are not in conflict: indoor peaches in containers behave like ordinary loot, and the outdoor ones in the woods are what one player could never take. Nothing here establishes which of those the quest expects you to use.

Neither Update 6, Update 7 nor any of the five hotfixes mentions peaches. That is a checked negative result, recorded so nobody has to check again: if this has been fixed, the developer did not say so.

Two places to buy them

The completion on record buys five peaches from the merchant in the town square, and for a long time he was the only vendor this site could point at. He is not the only one.

The baker in Magdal’s Rest stocks a peach too, and two channels see it independently. One player reads the shop out loud — bread, a peach, a berry, with the bread showing restore health 10 and the other two undiscovered — and a second player on a different channel and a different day opens the same shop, says “get a peach”, and buys one. That is two recordings for the baker against one for the merchant, which makes the baker the better-attested peach seller on this site even though the recorded completion never uses him.

Neither vendor has been recorded restocking, and nobody has bought more than a handful in one visit, so how many peaches the town can sell you in a day is unknown. If you are short by five and one shop is empty, the practical advice is simply that there is a second shop.

A third recording muddies it slightly: one player opens the baker’s shop and says it has nothing, in a sentence whose next clause asks about quests. Whether he meant the stock or the job is not clear from the caption, and the page prints the disagreement rather than dropping it.

The child who lies to you

In the woods outside town you meet the gatherers. They are children, they work for the tavern keeper, and one of them asks whether he talked you into helping.

Say yes and you get directions: “This job is hard all by ourselves. Peaches grow on these long vines deep underground. All you need to do is go down the skinny canyon all the way in the back of the woods and climb down the great big well at the end.”

It is false, and the game lets you say so. The recorded player answers “that doesn’t sound right”, and the child drops it immediately: “I knew you were too smart to fall for it. You don’t need my help to find where peaches grow. Look around you.”

Nothing in this repository shows what happens to a player who believes him and goes down the canyon. That is the single most obvious unexplored branch on this page, and it is left unexplored rather than guessed at. A second child, met separately, says only that the keeper pays them a little for each one.

What the keeper actually says

The recruitment is recorded word for word by two unrelated channels: “They’re paid for their work, of course. Even orphans have to make a living. If you venture into the woods just outside of town, you’ll be sure to cross paths with my free little hunters. You can join them — you know, hunt for peaches in the woods instead of hunting for salvation down in the hole. The pay is nothing to write home about. But the only wage of your current pursuit is death.”

One of the two adds a closing line the other cuts: “Think about it, won’t you?” and, on acceptance, “That’s what I like to hear. A hard day’s work and some honest pay will be a salve to your troubled mind.”

The turn-in, recorded once: “About time … nice ripe ones to boot. I can make a lot of it with this. It’s only right you get paid for your trouble. Only fair you get some finished product as well. Bottoms up.”

The spirit itself is not named on this page. Three recordings render its name three different ways and one player, reading his own inventory afterwards, guesses at a fourth. What is established is that it is distilled from peaches, that the keeper brews it himself, and that a bottle is part of the payment.

The other job he will not give you

Both recordings that ask him for work get the same refusal first: “There is something, but I’m not sure you’re up to the task. Not without knowing a bit of magic.”

That is a second piece of work, gated behind knowing magic, and it is separate from the peaches — the peaches arrive later in the same conversation, through the drinks. One recording comes close: a player returns to the tavern hours later, hears the same refusal, and answers the screen with “I know a bit of magic” — then walks off to talk to somebody else without pursuing it. What the gated job is remains unknown.

One player, hearing the refusal, jokes on camera that it will turn out to be killing rats. That is a streamer’s guess and not a quest; it is noted here only because his caption sits next to the game’s line and could easily be mistaken for it.

While you are there: the tavern gossip

Ask him whether anything has happened lately and he delivers a paragraph that four channels have recorded near-identically. It is the closest thing this game has to a table of contents: an adventuring party broke up badly; two of its members went north to Saffron; someone claims to have seen a skeleton swimming off the southern coast; and the djinn in town sold some madman a magic tome.

Every one of those is a quest or a location this site already has a page for, and none of them is presented as a lead — he is complaining about his customers. If you are stuck for something to do, this speech is where the game tells you.

The keeper also answers a question about the town: the village is Magdal’s Rest, “named long before anyone here took up residence”, and asked who Magdal was he says only “well, look around you”. His tavern has no proper name; he says some people call it after him. That exchange is recorded once.

Requirements / limits

  • The recordings behind this page were uploaded between 17 and 21 August 2026. Update 6 shipped on 20 August and Update 7 on 21 August, so most of them predate both; one, which corroborates the keeper’s recruitment speech and the gossip, went up on the day Update 7 shipped and it is not established whether the build in it is before or after the patch. Nothing here has been checked against the current build by playing it.
  • The pickup problem is one player’s report, made twice in one session. It is not a confirmed bug and no changelog mentions peaches.
  • Buying the shortfall worked for that player. Whether the quest can be completed entirely by purchase, with no gathering at all, is not recorded — he had seven before he bought five.
  • The keeper’s name is not printed here. Machine captions give it two ways, and on one recording they give it both ways for the same player, eleven seconds apart, in one conversation. No creator has written it down, so this page calls him the tavern keeper throughout.
  • The false directions have been recorded once. Whether the canyon and the well exist, and what is down there, is unknown.
  • The magic-gated job is recorded twice as a refusal and zero times as a quest.
  • The reward amount is not stated on this page. The turn-in is audible; the number on the screen is not.

Common mistakes

  • Hunting the woods for peaches on the ground. One player did that for three hours and finished the quest by shopping instead.
  • Giving up when the town-square merchant is out. The baker sells peaches as well, on two independent recordings.
  • Believing the child. He tells you peaches grow on vines deep underground, down a canyon, at the bottom of a well. He then tells you he made it up.
  • Asking the keeper for work and leaving when he says you need magic. The peaches are further into the same conversation, behind a question about drinks.
  • Treating “kill the rats” as the gated job. That line is a streamer’s joke sitting next to the game’s refusal in one caption file.
  • Skipping his gossip. Four of the site’s existing pages are named in it, and it is the only place the game volunteers them all at once.
  • Assuming the peaches you took indoors do not count. One recording shows a player reaching seven that way.

Still unverified

  • Are outdoor peaches pickable on the current build?Single unconfirmed reportOne player reports he could not pick up a single one, twice, two and three quarter hours apart. No changelog through Update 7 mentions peaches.
  • What is down the canyon and the well the child describes? Not verifiedHe admits inventing the directions as soon as the player doubts them. Nobody in this repository goes to look, so it is not established that the place exists.
  • What is the tavern keeper’s magic-gated job?Two independent public sourcesThat it exists is recorded twice, in the same words. A third recording has a player return and say he knows magic, then leave without following it up. What the job is has never been recorded.
  • Can the quest be completed entirely by purchase? Not verifiedThe one completion on record mixes seven gathered indoors with five bought. Nobody has tried buying all twelve, and no recording establishes how many either vendor carries or whether either restocks.
  • How many vendors in town sell peaches? Two independent public sourcesTwo are on record: the town-square merchant on one channel, and the baker on two. Nobody has surveyed the rest of the town’s shops, so two is a floor rather than a count.
  • How much does the keeper pay?Not verifiedThe turn-in dialogue and the bottle of spirit are audible. The coin figure is on screen and not read out.
  • Who was Magdal?Single unconfirmed reportThe keeper is asked directly and answers “well, look around you”, which is not an answer. Recorded on one channel.
