Where is the magic trainer?

Players searching for one magic trainer are likely mixing up Theodorus, who teaches the basics, and Bartolomaeus, who enables custom spell creation for gold.

Quick answer

There are two relevant NPCs. Wizard Worm's current-build walkthrough places Theodorus in Magdal's Rest and starts his basics through The Lost Tome. MaddyT's separate walkthrough places Bartolomaeus slightly west of the tower, downhill from a glass pyramid; he enables paid custom spell creation. The creators cover different NPCs, and neither route has been independently reproduced by a second source.

Early Access note: this page is verified for Early Access Update 7; mechanics, locations and commands may change in later updates.

Steps

  1. For basic magic, follow Wizard Worm's route to Theodorus in Magdal's Rest and take The Lost Tome quest.
  2. From the starting boat, turn left and follow the beach toward a small tower or obelisk; the madman holding the tome is hostile on approach.
  3. For custom spell creation, leave the tower on its west side and follow the small road downhill from the glass pyramid landmark, following MaddyT's correction rather than the quest text's southward hint.
  4. Pay Bartolomaeus for access to custom spell creation.

Requirements / limits

  • Theodorus and Bartolomaeus serve different roles; the two walkthroughs do not corroborate the same NPC or route.
  • The Theodorus route comes only from Wizard Worm, and the Bartolomaeus route comes only from MaddyT.
  • Neither route has been independently reproduced by a second source, and an Early Access update may move either NPC.

Common mistakes

  • Treating 'the magic trainer' as one NPC and following the wrong route for the service needed.
  • Following the quest text south of the tower when MaddyT reports Bartolomaeus slightly west instead.
  • Presenting either single-source route as independently verified.
